Born with the heart of a writer but trapped in the life of a soldier, Laguna had a wild story just waiting for him. While he spent years avoiding and bringing death, he still managed to keep a happy, light-hearted look at life. With his friends Kiros and Ward by his side, he fought with courage against the soldiers of Esthar, the mysterious eastern country, after getting lost because of Laguna's "perfect" sense of direction. Cornered on a cliff far above the ocean, they took the only option left to them and the biggest leap of their lives, literally.

 

His second chance at life was given in Winhill under the sometimes questionable care of a woman named Raine and a young sorceress named Ellone. He had been separated from his companions, but he found something of a family with the pair during the year he spent there. His dream was only fractured when he was found again by Kiros and Ward, having to face his real duty to Galbadia once more. It was then that he became aware of the bigger picture and, with the following kidnapping of Ellone, he found his next mission: search and rescue. During his attempts to find the girl and save her, he accidentally assisted in freeing prisoners, raising a rebellion and conquering the sorceress who had taken hold of both Galbadia and the strange country of Esthar.

 

With the threat sealed away, he was suddenly and unexpectedly honored with the duty of the first President of Esthar. Feeling in his heart that he wanted to help the country discover its true power outside of battle, he chose to stay and had Ellone escorted back to Winhill. He requested that Raine and the girl come live with him, but strange events kept any reply from reaching him. Without his knowledge, the woman gave birth to their only child, a secret that he wouldn’t find out about until nearly eighteen years later.

 

Despite the numerous problems that arose and the challenge of making the country completely independent and self-sufficient yet still a major power within the world, Laguna enjoyed his life and stayed loyal to his people. Even through the third Sorceress War and the disasters that resulted from the conflict, he managed to keep a brave smile on his face and led his people with the experience and wisdom he usually kept hidden behind his façade of the village idiot. The conclusion of the war brought a new calm and, with it, his lost family. Now, as head of the technologically advanced Esthar, he spends his days working with the other larger countries to establish and uphold peace to try and ensure that another Sorceress War never happens again.
