The Pauper

Reed was just an ordinary boy, being born into a family of ordinary citizens. His father was just an ordinary farmer, while his mother was just fish vendor in the market. During his early childhood, he often sneaked out to the Army's barrack and watches their drilling sessions. Not long after that, One of the guard discovered him sneaking out and decided to give him a proper training upon seeing Reed's interest.

At the age of 14, he mastered all the trainings given by his teacher. He aspired to become just like his teacher, and want to try his best to protect the Royal family.

When Reed finally reached 15 years old, He discovered his latent ability. He has the power to control water. Magic is something that's rare to be found in the country, and hence he embarked on a journey to control his own power.

Returning to his home, when he was 17 years old he's already capable of mastering his own ability and easily joined the Royal Guards, being the only one in the ranks who have a magical ability.

The Prince and The Pauper

One afternoon after joining the ranks, he decided to take a break in the garden just outside the castle. Accidentally, the prince who's trying to sneak out of the castle stumbled upon him. The prince and Reed look just almost the same, to both of them surprise. What's differentiating them would be the current clothings they were wearing. On the request of the prince, Reed agreed to switch their clothings and took on the role of a prince for 3 days, until the morning of the coronation ceremony as The king is old already, and the prince is supposed to take his throne. 

The Coup

Little did Reed know that the prince's uncle has been planning for a coup, trying to seize the throne for himself. He didn't know something was up, when suddenly he was drugged and awaken in the dungeon. Swords were pointed at him, as he was forced to sign the throne surrendering letter. Finally realizing what actually is up, he fought back and fended them off. Fortunately, his teacher and his fellow Royal Guards his aid. He knew all along that there will be a coup, and was ordered by the king to investigate on this matter. Fueled by the rage to Reed, who managed to foiled his plan, the prince's uncle challenged him for a duel. Reed gladly obliged to it, and they dueled in the middle of the fight between the Royal Guards and the mercenaries. Reed had him cornered, but he chose to take out his own life by stabbing himself in the gut. Reed emerged victorious and the coup attempt was stopped. Reed's teacher praised him, and discovering the resemblance between him and the prince finally Reed switched back with the prince.

The End?

All's well that ends well. Due to his heroic deeds by taking on the role of the prince to "save" him, he was promoted into the Captain of The Royal Guards  and as well as being called The Hero of the Kingdom. Well, despite the fact that they did it by accident it's still quite a feat.
