Classical Dionysus: God of wine, fruitfulness, parties, festivals, madness, chaos, drunkenness, vegetation, ecstasy, and the theater. He is the twice-born son of Zeus and Semele, in that Zeus snatched him from his mother's womb and stitched Dionysius into his own thigh and carried him until he was ready to be born. In art he is depicted as either an older bearded god (particularly before 430 BC) or an effeminate, long-haired youth (particularly after 430 BC). His attributes include the thyrsus, a drinking cup, the grape vine, and a crown of ivy. He is often in the company of his thiasos, a group of attendants including satyrs, maenads, and his old tutor Silenus. The consort of Dionysus was Ariadne. It was once held that Dionysius was a later addition to the Greek pantheon, but the discovery of Linear B tablets confirm his status as a deity from an early period. Bacchus was another name for him in Greek, and came into common usage among the Romans. His sacred animals include dolphins, serpents, tigers, and donkeys.

DIONYSOS, the youthful, beautiful, but effeminate god of wine. He is also called both by Greeks and Romans Bacchus (Bakchos), that is, the noisy or riotous god, which was originally a mere epithet or surname of Dionysus, but does not occur till after the time of Herodotus.

According to the common tradition, Dionysus was the son of Zeus and Semele, the daughter of Cadmus of Thebes (Hom. Hymn. vi. 56; Eurip. Bacch. init.; Apollod. iii. 4. § 3); whereas others describe him as a son of Zeus by Demeter, Io, Dione, or Arge. (Diod. iii. 62, 74; Schol. ad Pind. Pyth. iii. 177; Plut. de Flum. 16.) Diodorus (iii. 67) further mentions a tradition, according to which he was a son of Ammon and Amaltheia, and that Ammon, from fear of Rhea, carried the child to a cave in the neighbourhood of mount Nysa, in a lonely island formed by the river Triton. Ammon there entrusted the child to Nysa, the daughter of Aristaeus, and Athena likewise undertook to protect the boy. Others again represent him as a son of Zeus by Persephone or Iris, or describe him simply as a son of Lethe, or of Indus. (Diod. iv. 4; Plut. Sympos. vii. 5; Philostr. Vit. Apollon. ii. 9.)

Dionysus

Modern Dionysus: (INTRO POST) - When Han So Ah was twenty when she was in a car accident that rendered her comatose with minimal neural activity. Two days before her mother scheduled to have her taken off life support, Han So Ah woke up. Everyone rejoiced, the doctors calling it a miracle; but So Ah was confused, lost, and in distress, hands roaming her body before stripping the medical gown from her figure in the middle of a press conference, "This is not my body!" she screamed. Needless to say, after an interestingly rapid recovery, So Ah's mother took her to a therapist in hopes the claims her daughter was spewing was simply trauma from the accident. "Why do you think you are the Greek Deity Dionysus?" he'd ask her, and she would furrow her brows and scoff, "Because I AM." but none would believe her. And none certainly believed her when she said she was supposed to be a man. But he knew. He knew everything was wrong; was this some kind of sick joke?

But time was a funny thing; how easily he was able to adapt to his new body, new life. Fragments of So Ah's memories flooded his mind and he was able to play the part of a daughter instead of a son after vigorously figuring out his new body. What was harder to come to terms with would be this new world. Not new, simply aged. Long past were the times of robes and merriment; or so, he'd thought. One night, he was requested by a friend of So Ah's to go out a celebrate her revival, to drink, sing, and dance among the streets of Gangnam. Here, Dionysus saw. . .beauty; humanity drenched in drink and carefree as they partied their worries away. This, he thought, could be fun.

The curtains of his bedroom were pulled back, sunlight spilling in over his face. She groaned, an arm over her eyes as she sat up, long hair in a mess, "What time. . .?" she asked, her mother reply, 'Noon. You'll miss your flight!' and with a jolt, he was suddenly all over, jumping into clean clothes and washing his face before hurrying out to the car, his mother already in the drivers seat as she loaded up her suit cases. Today, So Ah was flying to the United States so she would begin attending UCLA; at least, that is what he'd told her mother. In truth, whispers in the wind found him as he partied in Seoul, his constant cheers of, 'I am the Greek god Dionysus! Drink and be merry with me!' in numerous social media posts bringing them along. It seemed he was not the only God of Old returned from the slumber, and as it would seem, the United States was where they were drawn to. Boarding his flight, first class with an entire bottle of white wine to be had over the thirteen hours, she couldn't help but click her tongue. He was enjoying himself, and he worried that reuniting with the rest of them would ruin what could potentially be the most fun he'd had in. . .ages.
