It is with my most deepest and profound regret to admit that I have no recollection of my actions as Minister of Magic. In the end, I had let the Wizarding community down by allowing one of the criminals known as Death Eaters to overcome my defenses and manipulate me and my position to their advantage. While under their Imperius Curse, I had performed inadequately as a Wizard, and passed legislation for them that I would have normally been opposed to. I find it hard to forgive myself for falling victim to them in a time when we needed a strong Ministry to help protect our kind, and I know that the community cannot forget my transgressions (errors?) in a time when they needed their Ministry the most. For this, I offer my sincerest, deepest apologies for having failed you. It is my dearest hope that I will not be judged by the actions I committed while Imperiused. This is why I have decided to tell my side of the story in hopes of dispelling some rather dubious rumors in an attempt to clear my name.

I'd like to start by stating that I had come to work at the Ministry with the best intentions at heart. For our fellow Wizarding families, Muggles and other Magical races. I have always been an impartial and neutral source of judgement, with a stout and firm stance on equality for all our magical brethren. This was why after the unfortunate murder of Amelia Bones, I was promoted to Head of the Department for Magical Law Enforcement by none other than Rufus Scrimgeour himself, who felt my exemplary skills, experience and record best qualified me for the post. I strived to be strong for my department and lead the valiantly as I was entrusted to do.

I have to say there were fears. Even with Rufus Scrimgeour becoming Minister of Magic, I already feared and believed that the Ministry had been infiltrated by Death Eaters waiting for the opportunity to strike. Unfortunately, while Rufus Scrimgeour had a tougher stance against the threat of Voldemort, he still wished to keep up the illusion of safety and security. I knew better than to believe it. The first time I felt an Imperius Curse being placed upon me, I resisted it immediately. I knew then there were Death Eaters within the Ministry. This was the reason I never told anyone, not even Rufus knowing he would immediately refuse to believe his strong Ministry had been infiltrated. It was reminiscent of the old days, when you weren't sure if you could even trust your own family...and I could not trust my Ministry. I began to put plans into place to find out who it was, even if it came down to using Legilimency on everyone in the department, but before I could act upon my plans, they managed to Imperius me. While one experiences the most blissful sensation of every anxiety and worry being gently swept away...ignorant of one's actions while under its effects, once it's broken it is not so...peaceful, anymore. For me, it was horrible...not knowing what actions you're doing under that curse. And the horror to find out once it's lifted is unimaginable.

Nothing can change the damage I have done while Imperiused. However, do not let my Imperiused tenure judge me. I had always felt more strongly about protecting Muggles and keeping good relations with other Magical races. I approve of the appointment of Kingsley Shacklebolt as Minister of Magic, and further approve of the radical changes going through the Ministry for the betterment of our kind and brethren. I believe we are to see better days with him as Minister, and more peaceful cooperation overall.

PIUS THICKNESSE           TELLS ALL
HIS TENURE UNDER THE          IMPERIUS CURSE
HIS APPROVAL OF NEW  LEGISLATION IN THE MINISTRY

Pius Thicknesse, the former Minister of Magic, and former Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, reveals to us at the Daily Prophet exclusively the unfateful tale of his blight.
"It was horrible," he remarked gently. "Not knowing what actions you're doing under that curse. And the horror to find out once it's lifted is unimaginable."
Pius Thicknesse had been Imperiused after he had been promoted to Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, shortly after Rufus Scrimgeour had been promoted to Minister of Magic. "He'd done well", one Fredrick Appleton remarked, who is a currently employed Hit wizard.
Pius Thicknesse has revealed exclusively to the Daily Prophet that he had been aware someone was trying to Imperius him but had a hard time discerning who he could tell about it, fearing the Ministry had already been infiltrated. "It was reminiscent of the old days, when you weren't sure if you could even trust your own family," he remarked.
To top it off, he is rather approving of Kingsley Shacklebolt as Minister ,and of the legislation going through. "Do not let my Imperiused tenure judge me. I had always felt more strongly about protecting Muggles and keeping good relations with other Magical races," he stated from his own manor in the countryside. (read the full story on page 3!)
