We do not bow; we do not yield
"We do not fear, we do not falter. The people of Dregosta are born with ice in their veins. We are not swayed by your cries for mercy. We will not weaken under your threats of death. If you declare us your allies, our winter will not fall upon you. If you declare us your enemies, your blood will stain our snow and your heads will rest on pikes of ice. Do not question the strength or will of the Dregostians, or you will face an eternal winter."

Galeran Gothrasea of Lothlade was born in a small hut on a fierce, winter night. His mother often told him as a child that the winds howled loudly the moment he was born; the gods had blessed and rejoiced in his birth. Galeran was indeed destined for greatness, something anyone in his village, and eventually all of Dregosta, could see.

Galeran spent his childhood how many of the children in Lothlade did; learning to become a warrior. From the moment one could walk in Lothlade, a sword was thrust into their hand. After all, it was a dangerous world, filled with wolves, bears, sabre-tooths and of course, humans. Galeran had quite a few advantages in life, one of them being that his father, Garand Gothrasea, was the blacksmith of Lothlade, and prominently known as the best blacksmith in all of the western world. Galeran was never without the finest blade nor best armor, save for when he was disciplined in hand-to-hand combat, which didn't allow weapons or armor. Another advantage was that his father was part of the high counsel, a group of men from the four villages of Dregosta who resided over the country and its well-being; Galeran was never out of the loop when it came to threats of an army invasion.

At first, Galeran's adolescence was uneventful, in spite of his greatness; the lack of excitement left him time to hone his skills both as a warrior, and as a blacksmith under his father as an apprentice. However, things changed when Galeran turned seventeen. Men from Hildebrant, a country notorious for its spying and gathering intell on Dregosta, marched into the base of the mountains and issued a decree from the King of Hildebrant himself; Dregostian land fell under the new territory of Hildebrant, and therefore would become part of the country of Hildebrant. Rather than becoming outraged by this claim, the Dregostians issued their own message: If the soldiers of Hildebrant could take Dregosta's villages, the land would become theirs and the people of Dregosta would kneel and serve the crown of Hildebrant.

The King of Hildebrant sneered at the challenge and sent his men in full-force into the mountains of Dregosta. Not a soldier in Hildebrant doubted that it would only take one day to topple a few mountain villages inhabited by stupid savages. That was, not until they reached the snow-covered passes of the mountain range. The soldiers did not account for many factors: They didn't account for the ferocious wildlife they'd never encountered before. They didn't account for the boulders that crushed them in one push. They didn't account for just how cold the mountains were, leaving many losing appendages and limbs from frostbite, or simply dropping dead in the snow altogether. They didn't account for the people of Dregosta, who had a far higher tolerance and understanding of the climate, and used it to their advantages, hiding in snowy passes and attacking when soldiers passed. They didn't account for the Dregostians training wolves and sabre-tooths to rip out the throats of their enemies once unleashed. Most importantly, they didn't take into account that every Dregostian, man and woman, had been training to kill before they could even count to ten.

When the first wave of soldiers never returned from the mountains, King Thaydon II sent a scouting party to find their whereabouts. The scouting party returned with only a handful of battered and wounded soldiers, and a cart filled with the heads of soldiers who had decorated the entrance to the first pass of the mountains. Those who survived spoke of the Dregosta as if they were monsters, but none more than Galeran, The Winter Storm of Dregosta. The soldiers described him as a creature that leapt from the snow, cutting down anything that stood in his path. They told tales of how this one boy, wielding a single blade, killed fifteen of their men all on his own. He wasn't a human, they insisted when interrogated by the king. He was a titan born from the ice and snow of Dregosta. He was the anger of the gods themselves.

The loss of Dregosta was minute; some of the warriors obtained deep wounds that left them incapacitated but alive. Unfortunately, Galeran's father was one of the wounded in the battle. As a result of the scrimmage, he'd lost his arm from the elbow down. To Galeran's father, this was a fate worse than death; his livelihood and his pride as a warrior had been taken. Galeran, however, refused to give up on his father. He insisted that his ability as a smith nor a warrior had been taken, merely challenged, and were he to give up, that would take away his pride. As Garand had taught Galeran, Galeran now taught Garand; the two worked tirelessly to compensate for Garand's injuries, both in combat and in smithing. It was hard for both of them, Garand to rearrange his entire life from the way he'd known it, and Galeran at seeing his father weak and suffering. However, as the years passed, the suffering lessened, and Garand learned to get around his disability. He wasn't as fast, or as dexterous, but he was capable, and Galeran was there to make sure his father's work was polished and kept up to the standard the Gothrasea clan had always ensured.

In recent years, Galeran has taken his retired father's place in the high counsel; the counsel has grown increasingly worried about Hildebrant's movements. Though they haven't yet tried another attack, they have been gathering alliances across the world, and many other kingdoms have fallen in their wake. While half of the counsel takes the stance of not being concerned because it's not their business, Galeran and others feel that if all other nations fall, Hildebrant will come after them, and with the force of an entire world against them, defeat will become inevitable. Though Galeran is confident they could take on anyone who dares invade their home, the idea of alliance through offering the help of Dregosta is appealing. At the very least, it would keep Hildebrant from obtaining the power needed to take Dregosta, and it would serve to benefit the rest of the world to see a country that refuses to budge. Even in the snowy mountains of Dregosta, hope is a very powerful weapon.
