Red is one of the most trusted friends of Snow White and Emma Swan. She has proven time and time again where her loyalty lies. She lives in the Enchanted Forest alongside her Grandmother, Widow Lucas. In Storybrooke, the two women run a Diner.
Peter and the Wolf -- One day, Granny sent Red out to gather eggs from the chickens when she came across a woman hiding in the chicken barn. At first the woman says her name is Mary, and than Margaret, and then cut off by Ruby--told her to not worry, that it was clear that she didn't trust her and that she was okay. The woman turned out to be Snow White, who was hiding at that time from the Evil Queen and her guards. The small village which the two women are from is being terrorized by a giant wolf, one that the Mayor himself will organize hunting parties on hopes of defeating. Granny constantly turns them away, and instead locks Red away in their home where Granny stands guard the entire night with a crossbow while forever warning Red to keep her Red cloak on. Granny insists that Red reples wolves. Snow White learns that Red is seeing Peter, the Blacksmiths son. Granny refuses to approve the relationship which causes a strain with she and Red. Red, doesn't care what Granny thinks and continues to see Peter. Snow White isn't too keen on Red's idea, but soon agrees to follow. Red wants to kill the wolf herself, that way Granny can't deny she and Peter being together. Red and Snow follow the wolf tracks, which ironically enough lead back to Granny and Red's cabin. There, they realize that the wolf must be Peter! Snow lays in Red's bed pretending to be her, while Ruby slips off to tell Peter the sad news that he has been the wolf all along. Peter believes her theory, he even allows Red to tie him to a tree so that if he does change, he will be kept safe and the hunting party, since the wolf had already struck down many. However, as the full moon shines the truth becomes clear. Peter was never the wolf, instead it was Red, who without her cloak quickly shape shifts into a giant wolf. Despite Peter trying to beg for his life, Red has no sense of her human self and tears her boyfriend apart, feasting on him until Granny and Snow arrive and Granny takes the wolf down with a Silver tipped bow. There, she places the cloak over the wolf who turns back into Red. Granny had known the truth all along, but hoped that it would have spared Red the curse that even plagued the old woman once upon a time ago. Granny even went as far as paying a wizard to make a speical Red cloak for Red that would control her transformations. While Granny is upset that her refusal to tell her secret to Red had cost so many lives, the oncoming hunting party is drawing close as well as those who are now aware that Snow White is with them. Granny demands that the two women run, yelling at Red to knock her out of her grief over the loss of Peter and to just run. Red is helped along by Snow, until Red realizes there is a tear in her cloak. She is terrified that she will change again and hurt Snow, so she has her friend run on her own while Red hides. Red wakes the following morning, alone, but okay.
Anita -- All through her life, Red was told by Granny that her Mother died when she was born. Granny later tells Snow that Red's Mother was a wolf and was killed by hunters. When another Werewolf steals Red's enchanted cloak she is led to an old castle turned Werewolves Den where Anita is the pack leader. She learns the truth that Granny had been lying, and Anita tells her that Granny took her from her so that she couldn't become a wolf. Anita is insulted to learn that Red believes that she is 'cursed' and that she resists the wolf 'inside of her' She shows Red that her curse isn't as much of a curse as Granny has made it out to be, and that the wolf within can be controlled. She shows her, as well as other Werewolf Quinn who helps Red learn. However, when Snow seeks help and arrives at the Werewolves Den with Red, the Evil Queen sends her guards, one of them killing Quin and sending the waith of Anita down on Snow. Anita sees to it that she kill Snow, which Red will not allow. The two women transform at will into their Werewolf counterparts and fight. The fight ends when Anita impale herself upon a spike at the height of the battle everyone stops. As she lay dying, she tells a tearful Red that she chose Snow over her. Red replies that she chose herself and that she is not a killer. The two bury Anita and say their goodbye to the woman that Red was barely able to know.
Storybrooke -- In Storybrooke, Red's counterpart is 'Ruby Lucas' she works at Granny's Diner with her Grandmother where for awhile she and Granny constantly butted heads over Ruby's choices or lack of choices in life. She dressed in a provoctive manner, sometimes gaining all of the wrong attention. It wasn't until she had an argument and quit the Diner that she realized her wrong. She ended up getting her job back, and began dressing in a more respectable manner. When the curse broke, her werewolf curse returned. Ruby's friend Billy ends up dead and Ruby is quickly considered the main suspect. The District Attorney Albert Spencer ( King George ) is intent on having Ruby punished. But, with Granny and Charming looking into the case on their own, they discover that it wasn't Ruby who killed Billy, but was Spencer himself looking to frame Ruby out of revenge against Charming. Charming saves Ruby in her wolf form before Spencer is able to kill her. There, the town is made aware of the false claims that Spencer made. Ruby is finally able to recall the teachings that her Mother had taught her before her passing as far as handling the wolf within her. Ruby can now transform at will and can maintain full control over herself as a wolf. She will from time to time go into the forest in order to let that transformation loose and enjoy the 'freedom' the now former curse gives her.
Monster to Monster -- While she has many friends she loves in Storybrooke, she found a kindred spirt in Dr. Whale. The two have been faced with paths that while different, have also led to the two being sometimes labled as 'monsters' and when she pulls the Doctor back from an attempt at taking his own life, she helps him to understand that despite it all, that there is always a time to change. Despite all of the turmoil that Storybrooke is constantly placed in, the two have found the time to grow closer.
