BECOMING COTTONMOUTH:

__________________________

As a child, Cas was the epitome of average. He lived in a small town with his parents, attended a small school in which he had several friends, and kept to his own small, insignificant hobbies. One of which would, in time, grow and develop out of its average state.

Early on in life, Cas took an interest in swordsmen, likely because of his father's interest in the same subject. He would visit his father's study every day and ogle at the weaponry he'd bought at auctions and the like, imagining himself wielding those gorgeous blades. Of course, granted, he was just some average-joe kid, and thus he eventually came to terms with himself that those imagined stories were just that. Imagined. Cas lost touch with his love for fine blades as he reached his teens, though the love itself was still there regardless. A passion is not so easily diminished.

As Cas began to grow from child to man, he started noticing conflict between his parents which he never had before. As a child, these things had never occurred to him, but now he couldn't help but lend a curious ear when his father began leaving the house more and more often. For hours on end, and his mother would sit with a bottle of wine and head in her hands 'till he returned.

Curious and aching to know where his father was leaving to each and every day, Cas followed him one day as he drove off, leaving his mom to her alcohol. Cas had his own car at that age and, of course, his dad would spot it if he were to follow right behind him, so Cas took to following him by foot. Cutting corners and sneaking through buildings to keep up with the car meanwhile avoiding detection, but nevertheless doing so successfully. He followed his father to what looked to be a work facility and possibly a factory, tucked away just outside of his town.

From here, Cas' curious only drug him downhill.

The memory of what happened when entering the building and how he was caught now escapes him, but he does know the security of the building captured him easily and brought him before his father, who he now saw to be working on some strange scientific pursuits. He recalls animals- snakes, mostly- in cages, hooked up to machines and IVs. He recalls dozens of syringes filled with the same golden liquid lined up on a long table, as if they were each ready for use. His father confronted him and told him he had been waiting for his son, perfect and suitable in DNA, to finally fall into his own curiosity and one day follow his father here. It was implied that the unease between his parents could have all been an act, though Cas never had the emotional strength to find out for himself.

His father injected him with one of the syringes. Cas remembers an immediate pain as the syrum entered his bloodstream, though he fell unconscious quickly following. He woke in a different location, feeling even more so. His body felt odd; new; unfamiliar. Upon finally stumbling to his feet, he made his way to a mirror in this new room, which looked to be military-esque, and took in what was.. new. His eyes were bright, yellow, and piercing, accommodating to the lightless room around him. His pupils were thin as razors, similar to that of a snake. His tongue showed pure white, fangs replaced his canine teeth, and some of the skin over his cheekbones had even developed a very subtle scale-like texture. He began to look around him and noticed no lights were on, his room had no windows, and it seemed likely the sun wasn't out. But… He could see just as well as he would've in broad daylight. He, actually, had thought it was broad daylight until having noticed these things. His DNA had been mended with that of the venomous Cottonmouth snake, and these things he'd just noticed were only the beginning.

THE BEGINNING OF COTTONMOUTH:

__________________________

Cas would find that the door to his room was unlocked and outside await a long, steel-wall and granite-floor corridor, lined with doors marked with random four-digit numbers. His is the only he managed to remember through the years. #1017. Correlating with his birthday, October seventeenth. As Cas went through the hall, he noticed several security cameras watching from their places on the ceiling, however… No alarms nor guards went off as he left his room. It was as if they were allowing him to progress, despite this seeming to be a secure building. Cas peeked through a few of the small, narrow windows on the doors. Each room appeared empty, though their layout was identical to his. To this day, he doesn't know whether or not he was the only person-in-holding in that facility.

At the end of the hall Cas walked lie large, metal double-doors. Unlocked, as Cas found. Inside was a narrow, small room. No lights nor windows, though he could see clear as day. The only contents of the room was two black footlockers, both- surprisingly- locked. Cas searched the room for keys to no avail, as there was quite literally nothing but those cases and cold steel. Finally, minutes later, as frustration began to take hold of Cas, he began trying to pull and pick at the locks with only his hands, attempting to break them. This, obviously, bore no results. Eventually, as he was practically boiling with anger, he struck the lock on the largest case, letting out a snake-like hiss rather than a yell in the process. A spark flew up from the lock. A spark he couldn't have created from simply hand to metal. As Cas lifted his hand, he found short though thick and curled black claws, reminiscent of those of a reptile. After shaking off the shock of having claws, he took advantage of them and picked the locks with a single claw, as if it were a lock-pick.

Inside the cases would lead Cas to believe this facility and its setup were all strangely configured and made for him. Inside the largest case was a sword; a beautiful, ornate one, crafted of what felt to be steel, however had a rich black-silver tint to it. On the butt of the sword was his initials. Inside the other, smaller case was.. a keycard. One that read the name of a certain "S.E.C.A Stealth Suit" on it. On the far side of the room, he'd find a small, shallow opening in the steel wall had opened and bore a slot, one which fit the keycard perfectly. A larger portion of the wall slid down into the floor like an automatic door as the keycard was entered, revealing a clear glass case with a stand inside. On the stand was a suit. His suit. To Cas, it felt almost as if he had a right to the suit.

After having equipped himself with the sword and the suit, which seemed to fit his form flawlessly, all of the doors closed. As if on cue. The double doors and the one previously concealing the stealth suit. One of the side walls to the room fell into the floor similarly to the one which revealed his suit, though this one instead revealed a hall. A hall which ended in an elevator.

In front of the elevator, however, stood four military-grade armor clad men, holding what looked to be assault rifles. They spotted Cas immediately and aimed their guns, threatening to fire.

This was Cas' test so that he could discover his own abilities and find if he was fit to use them. Upon crouching low to the ground and bringing his sword into his hand, he disappeared. Invisible. He wouldn't notice at first, though when he did, he didn't hesitate to use this adaptation to his best ability. No use in hesitating over this like he did his claws, especially in the midst of battle. He brought down the guards in a matter of minutes; dragging his claws through the neck of one and sinking his fang-like canine teeth into the forearm of another, who fell onto the ground in a seizure-like fit seconds following, as he'd been injected with venom. The two remaining guards succumbed to the cold steel of his blade.

Cas exited through the elevator and began his new, reinvented life.

PERSONALITY BASICS:

__________________________

After his ordeal of becoming Cottonmouth and adjusting to such, Cas left his hometown to live in the biggest, busiest city he knew of: Quake City; aspiring to restart his life from a whole new perspective. Living in this environment with little past experience for years shaped Cas up to be forthcoming, witty, sarcastic, and crude. However, he's still a man of values and morals, making him significantly more humorous than genuinely rude. Cas's morals also make him kinder to those who are kind in return.

Cas is playful, and often makes snarky remarks in even the most dangerous or serious of situations. He might even try his luck at flirting under the right circumstances. He likes to mock his opponent in battle.

Cas has a guilty conscience and doesn't hesitate to help those in need, though often still tries to do so with personal gain in mind.

Cas is no stranger to common vices and resents near none of them. Sex, alcohol, drugs, money, you name it.

tl;dr

Cas was an average teenager living a particularly normal life. His father was always a suspicious man, leaving the house and his mother alone day-in and day-out, however it never came to Cas' attention until his mother really started suffering the affects of such. One day, Cas followed his father from their home to a work facility far outside of town, as he'd become curious enough to want to know what his father was leaving to do each and every day.

As it turns out, tables turn on Cas and his father had actually long awaited the day his son followed him to his place of work. Cas had the perfect DNA and genes for an animal-related experiment, however his father was never willing to up and kidnap his own son. Cas is used for an experiment in which a human test subject has their DNA fused with that of a venomous snake.[Namely a Water Moccasin, or "Cottonmouth"] Following the procedure, Cas falls unconscious and is moved to a military facility where his new adaptations were tested. This facility is also used for testing whether or not Cas is a successful experiment and if he should be, to put it bluntly, kept alive.

Cas successfully passes all tests given to him and is awarded a personalized suit and weapon to compliment his new abilities.

It's left ambiguous whether his father or an unknown military faction were the ones to provide Cas with his suit and weaponry.

Cas has experience with sword-handling given his father was an avid collector of fine blades and Cas had taken a similar interest in swords at a young age.

SUPERHERO ABILITY NOTES:

__________________________

- Cas' venom isn't necessarily deadly, as it may depend on amount injected and body of person injected. Generally speaking, it merely results in temporary paralyzation.

- Venom only lasts for about five bites, after which the body needs at least a day to produce more.

- Cas is very, very sensitive to cold weather, as he can't sustain a high body temperature.

- The S.E.C.A suit does not generate any powers. It provides armor protection as well as eyesight/light protection. [ Hense goggles. ]

- Similar to a snake, Cas's fangs fold back against the roof of his mouth when at rest.
