I am your downfall

"King Thaydon, you do not understand my people. It is not hate which drives us to go to war. It is loss. It is the loss of our mothers, our fathers, our siblings, our children. The loss of our homes, our temples, our safety and our lands. It is not hate you should fear from us. It is the loss which you've brought upon them, and upon me. There is a balance throughout life, and you've broken it. When they come to your gates and burn down your kingdom, that balance will be restored. This is what you should fear."

The affairs of men were left to their own devices. This had always been the philosophy of the Elven people, from the tides of Aluyaana, to the mountains of Orodaran, and down to the thick trees of Doreryn. Though parted by land, these three elven nations have always been connected through heart. The three nations long ago agreed to never takes sides regarding the affairs of the humans; it would only lead to their downfall. while Aluyaana was protected by the vastness of the ocean, and Orodaran by rocky, jagged mountains, Doreryn relied on the deep forest of Tauremornalome to keep them safe and hidden from human eyes. No one ever imagined the day when the humans would storm the forest, cutting it down and destroying everything in their path.

But the day came. When the people of Doreryn first heard the crashing of trees and voices of men, they were horrified. The trees, as ancient and full of life as the elven people, were mercilessly being hacked down. For what purpose, the Dorerynians didn't know. A scouting party was formed and sent out to the edges of the forest to meet the humans, to gather more information about the situation at hand. They did not return. It was days before the sounds of the trees dying stopped. But there was unrest within the kingdom; the missing party members and the sudden silence was unnerving.

Then the humans came to the gates of Doreryn. A council was held with Laegon Lassehin, the king of Doreryn. The humans explained they were chopping the trees down to rebuild their kingdoms, which were suffering extensive damage due to their wars. When asked where the missing diplomats were, they replied that they had been taken to their kingdom as "leverage". The king demanded they be released; the humans replied this would only happen if Laegon and his men swore their allegience to the crown of Hildebrant and joined their army to defeat their enemies. The king refused; this was not their war, it was the humans'. The negotiations became hostile, and the humans left swearing to punish the kingdom for going against the royal crown.

The women, children and elderly of Doreryn were gathered up and given directions to Ras Arphain, since it was a closer distance for them to travel. The men were left behind to protect the gates of Doreryn; though the elven kind were not war mongerers, they knew when it was time to defend their lands. The princess of Doreryn, Sabariel, was to be escorted by the king's men to Aluyaana instead of Ras Arphain; it was a longer and more dangerous trek, but she could ask their brethren to help in their aid against the humans. She was hesitent to leave her homeland, but she wasn't given much choice; she packed the few belongings she was allowed to take and walked from her homeland into the wilderness. Sabariel and her escorts made it from the woods, only to find the land in front of them scorched and empty. Blood stained the once beautiful meadows, and old, broken weapons lay gathering rust upon the ground.

The people of Doreryn made it to their neighboring nation Ras Arphain safely; the same could unfortunately not be said for Sabariel and her escorts. They were attacked in the dead of night by Hildebrant soldiers; her men were killed and Sabariel was enslaved, brought back to the great kingdom of Hildebrant to face the council of mankind. She was forced to stand before the king of Hildebrant, where he announced to her that her kingdom had fallen, and her soldiers were dead. She was now, by all rights and laws, the ruler of Doreryn, and as such, she would allow his soldiers to turn her haven into a stronghold for Hildebrant. All she had to do was give them her approval. She whole-heartedly refused, even under the threat of being executed right then and there in the throne room. For days she was tortured, and each day she was asked to relinquish her power over the kingdom. She said no every time.

It was then that the King's son, Thaydon III, found a way around her permission; if he were to marry her, he would by law become the king over her land. And so, Sabariel was forced into a marriage with the prince of Hildebrant, and her land was seized in the name of the Hildebrant crown. Sabariel explained this would make no difference to her people; elven land was sacred and belonged to them. The prince retorted back that nothing was sacred, not even the names they held or the clothes on their back. As an act of further humiliation, he decreed from henceforth, the people of Hildebrant would call their princess "Adalaria"; "a name fit for the future queen of Hildebrant," he sneered. She was no longer permitted to wear her elven garbs, nor was she allowed to travel to the temples to pray. Thaydon was determined that once he took the Hildebrant throne as king, his wife would assimilate into human culture.

After the death of Thaydon II, his son was given the crown and title of King of Hildebrant, with Queen Adalaria by his side. Though he no longer needed her for his means, his obsession with breaking her seemed to grow along with his lust for blood. Despite the fables of elves having immortal lives, the woman grew sickly, pale and feeble. Rumors of disappearances of men by the oceanside or in the mountains sustained her hope for a while, but when no one came to rescue her, Sabariel could do nothing but await death.

It was a fateful day when the kingdom was attacked by an ambitious dragon-born; the chaos of the attack left soldiers scattering in all directions, and as a result, left Sabariel unattended. No guards and an open door was all she needed. Sabariel fled the kingdom, but was spotted by Thaydon during her escape. Sabariel was followed and chased to the wastelands, and just as it seemed she'd be taken into captivity again, a sword halted the hand moving to grab her. Without realizing it, Sabariel had stumbled onto the land of Brom, where Hildebrant had no authority. The captain in charge of Sabariel's return demanded they hand the woman over, that it was no concern of Brom what they did with an escaped prisoner. The men of Brom refused to yield, and Thaydon's men returned to their king empty-handed.

The leader of Brom's men, Althanomir, brought Sabariel to the kingdom of Arvandor, where she was given safe-haven. Unfortunately, as a result of this kindness, Hildebrant declared Brom enemies to the crown. Sabariel has since stayed in Arvandor, where she spends her time planning her course of action to regain her throne. While she deeply misses Doreryn, she seems to grow stronger and healthier every day under the free skies of Arvandor. Sabariel is quite reluctant to discuss her future, as she sees no happiness for herself in it. However, the happiness of her people is enough to drive her to gather up strength and courage, so that she may take back the throne, not as Queen Adalaria of Hildebrant, but as Queen Sabariel Lassehin of Doreryn.
