-Name-

Maribelle Artimesia

-Gender-

Female

-Age-

Seventeen

-Race-

Human

-Job/Occupation-

Recon Corps (Reassigned from Town Garrison)

-Personality-

Maribelle is as sweet as they come, willing to look out and care for those around her at the drop of a hat. She is generally cheerful, trying to keep everyone in high spirits even though she is fairly quiet. She was noted for her ability to empathize during her training, giving her a good amount of points in the leadership area. Those around her all report that they feel that she truly cares about them. With a quick mind and good judgement, she has exceptional leadership qualities.

However, though she has some standout leadership abilities, she is also noted for cracking easily under pressure. She does not want anyone around her to be hurt, and will fly into a panic or frenzy if put in a near hopeless situation, potentially making bad decisions and poorly thought out decisions. If she is able to be calmed down however, her clear mind and thoughtful tactics can be a great asset.

As kind and compassionate as Maribelle is, she makes sure to keep a certain distance from people, never allowing herself to become too close to someone. Even though she goes to great effort and trouble to try to break this habit, she is completely unable to. She truly loves and cares for those around her, yet, as much as she wants to, she can't open up completely to anyone. The fear of losing anyone she becomes close with is ever-present, and petrifies her to the core. To her mind, the only way to prevent this is to never become close to another.

-Backstory-

As an normal and ordinary girl, Maribelle lived a tame life in one of the four towns along the Wall Maria. She helped a lot at her family's inn, serving guests, cleaning rooms, and learning about people gradually over the years. Every waking moment she wasn't helping her parents, she spent her time lying in the meadow by her house amongst the flowers. Anyone who walked past saw a girl looking upwards into the sky, almost as if she  longed to know more about the world outside the walls. However, they would also see a boy and girl beside her. They were her best friends. Every moment she spent with them was the best moment in her life.

The day the Colossal Titan attacked, Maribelle ran not away, but towards the beast. She looked desperately for her friends and family. Her face lit up as she saw them running into her family's inn, and she ran towards them. However, a Garrison soldier scooped her up as he ran by, carrying her towards the evacuation point. She kicked and screamed, begging to be let go. The man used his Maneuver Gear to speed them away. A moment passed as they flew into the air, and Maribelle's gaze lifted back to her family's inn, or what was left of it.

The moment she looked back up, an image was forever carved into her emerald eyes.

Blood flowed from the inn, a titan now standing where the living room was. Her mother was sprawled out on the street in front of the building, and her father lay against her body... with his lower torso across the street from him. The last time she ever saw her friends was as they screamed, being consumed by the titan that held them.

She didn't scream, didn't cry out, but sobbed. Something deep within her being broke as she cried into the man's shoulder as he carried her. The image would haunt her nightmares, appear in her dreams every night for months. She would scream at first, but eventually it became regular to her. Even after the nightmares faded, the image never left her mind.

After she was safe behind the Wall Rose, she knew it was too late for her, but she would stop anyone else from having the same thing happen to them. Some time later, she joined the Cadet Academy and trained until she blistered and bled. While she originally intended to join the Recon Corps, the few friends she made joined the Garrison and begged her to join them too.

She agreed, and they stood guard over the Wall Rose.

And history repeated itself once more.

Instructor's Note: "Impressive social skills allows her to bring out the best in her peers, and her ability to use the 3D Maneuver Gear is exceptional with impressive agility and dexterity. However..."

Maribelle is a graduate of the 102nd Trainee's Squad, and one of the best and brightest of the recruits, coming in at rank fifteen in her class. She is especially noted for her agility and dexterity, with her speed, accuracy, and maneuverability among the best the academy has every seen. Unfortunately, her upper body strength leaves much to be desired. While her leg muscles were able to be conditioned to the point where she is able to proficiently utilize the 3D Maneuver Gear, her arm strength is extremely lacking, rarely allowing her to take down a titan in one strike without an extreme amount of built up speed. It would normally take her two or three passes at a titan in order to inflict enough damage to the nape of the neck to kill it, leaving a dark mark on her otherwise exceptional 3DMG skills. It's for this reason she did not make the top ten and why she ranked so relatively low in comparison to her abilities. To make up for this and make better use of her speed, Maribelle specially altered her gear so that in addition to the blades found on standard gears, it allows a small slot and catch for her to hook tiny derringer sized pistols onto the grips. Thus, her primary role is the diversion and disabling of deviant titans (through blinding) when in combat rather than direct fighting, though she is very well and capable of surviving on her own against the majority of titans. The main drawback is that with the primitive firearms, she has to carry a number of pistols since reloading on the battlefield is impractical. If she needs to reload, it can take her minutes at a time, so typically she begins fighting normally if caught in a tight situation. This is fine for her, as her job is essentially to make the job easier and safer for those around her. Without even needing to directly fight a titan, she has proven to be an invaluable asset to her squadron.
